Hello PPMA members and friends
Our One to Watch programme attracts some outstandingly talented people every year and this blog post has been written by our 2023/24 winner Sophie Coubrough, Human Resources Officer, HR & OD at Brentwood Borough Council & Rochford District Council. As part of her winner’s duties she was was invited to be part of the the judging panel for this year’s cohort and has shared her experience with us below.
Following last years’ experience of the One to Watch programme 2023, I knew the excitement, development and confidence that would radiate throughout. When provided the opportunity to become a judge for the 2024 programme, I was honoured to participate on the judging panel. I’d like to thank all the coaches and judges alongside me on the day as well as the astonishing Leatham Green, you made the experience one I will never forget! Also a massive thank you to Julie Biggs for arranging and putting together something so amazing.
However, I didn’t prepare myself for such a talented and inspiring cohort. 13 amazing individuals all came together and flourished, encouraging and supporting one another as they progressed throughout the 2 days. To see the teamwork, collaboration and bonds that were created in such a short amount of time is astounding. My experience last year was nothing short of groundbreaking for my development and confidence, and it was an honour to see everyone have the same positive experience.
Following a constructive 2 days, we had the pleasure of announcing the 2024 One to Watch winner – Clare Minzako! Clare demonstrated skills of taking initiative, great teamwork and conviction. Clare’s legacy statement WOW’d me, showing me what a talented HR workforce we have in local government. Her ability to move and capture you, speaking strongly on her aspirations and drive as well as her impressive accomplishments.
The past year as the One to Watch Winner has provided me opportunities galore, chances to share my legacy statement with others, various networking events to socialise and listen to other inspiring and educated individuals. The confidence I have developed the past year – I wouldn’t recognise myself now! And this is why I can’t wait for Clare to take these experiences at full force and take every opportunity available as it comes her way.
I look forward to seeing Clare thrive with her Winner title, she is an amazing representative of such a brilliant cohort.
I know every individual will continue to flourish in their roles, continuing to learn and grow in their positions and any future ones to come.
As a 2024 judge, it was definitely one to watch!
