Strategic Leadership Programme

Strategic Leadership in Modern Local Government

A national programme to develop Senior Managers into Strategic Leaders

The PPMA’s research with the CIPD before Christmas identified examples of public sector organisations where strong leadership was enabling high engagement levels to be sustained despite the significant budget cuts being made. We know that leadership is one of the key drivers of engagement levels. As we face up to the challenge posed by another 5 years at least of budget reductions, we need leadership in the sector that can create a new strategic vision, encourage innovation and continuous improvement, work across organisational boundaries and inspire the teams who work with them. It is fundamental to our future success.

The PPMA is very pleased to be contributing to and therefore supporting the Strategic Leadership Programme run by KBA. Our focus in particular is around the ability of leaders to create the kind of “new deal” for our workforce which is motivational and enables us to attract and retain the talent we need. Details of the programme for local government strategic leaders, which is also supported by the LGA, can be found here (with an application form).

PPMA members are being offered the following:

For PPMA members who wish to take a place on the course for themselves an offer of a further 5% reduction of the programme fee in addition to the 30% bursary. You will have enhanced ILM membership from the standard 6 months to 12 months and waiving of the £50 registration fee for those who wish to upgrade membership at the end of the 12 months study membership. (The ILM membership offer will apply for everyone; the discount is solely for PPMA members)

For PPMA members who wish to host a regional programme, an offer under the Place for Space Scheme, one free place on the programme (excluding ILM fees and subject to meeting standard application conditions and hosting requirements). We would particularly welcome hosts for Birmingham, Manchester or Preston.

Places are restricted and should be returned to [email protected] as soon as possible and no later than 15th March 2013.
