Presidents Highlights

It’s been really busy… Since #PPMAHR2018. I can’t quite believe it but it’s already June!

I’ve been working very closely with Steve and Leatham since conference on a range of items. You’ll remember at conference we shared with you our PPMA structure review. We’re doing this for a number of reasons. There are great opportunities for us to increase our collaboration with our new MOU partners, CIPD, HPMA and UHR; develop and deliver more services for you, our members and raise our profile even further. For us to take advantage of this great news, we want to take a good look at how we work to make sure we do our very best for you. There’ll be more on this over the next weeks.

I’ve also been out and about doing various press and media work – Leatham is preparing for two Holistic Wellbeing Summits in June (one in Leeds and London). We’re both preparing for our regular slots at Public Sector Show and Steve has been organising his first Regional event of my term – and, with Kim, finalising our accounts. Grace is doing a tremendous job keeping track of all of us – no mean feat. I really hope you enjoy the newsletter – it there’s anything you would like us to cover, please let us know on [email protected] or [email protected]

Past Presidents View

Our Past Presidents… Have an amazing set of career experiences between them. We’ve got Past Presidents with Central, Local Government and Health experience. We’re also seeing a number of them further expand their portfolios – Gillian Quinton for example, has several years experience as Director of Resources at Buckinghamshire Country Council – and she is currently filling the Director of Adult Services role there.

Each month we’ll feature one of our PP’s and learn more about their views on the challenges and opportunities we face. Don’t miss this important feature.

Key Issues

We’ve had a great response to the MOU announcement on Twitter and LinkedIn. We’ll also have a piece in an upcoming People Management issues.

We’re now focused on delivering benefits for our members.  We’ve already agreed with CIPD, that HPMA, UHR and ourselves will sit on the CIPD Policy Forum – this is a great opportunity to ensure public services issues are reflected here.

We’re also being given early sight of the new CIPD Professional Standards Framework.  CIPD are doing a huge amount of work on this and you may have already contributed by attending CIPD workshops. The opportunity for us to respond to this will mean that we can better ensure that the work you do can be reflected in CIPD qualifications and ongoing CPD.

We are also working with partners on our research programme.  As an example, we’ll be including Healthcare and Universities colleagues in our Brexit research.

This year’s Northern Forum will include MOU Partners.  We are delighted about this.  We’ll be in Leeds on October 10th and 11th – so save the date.

We’ve just submitted our consultation response to the Government’s Domestic Violence and Abuse Bill.  We have worked really closely with some partners in Safe Lives, Standing Together and EIDA (Employers Initiative on Domestic Abuse).  It’s been a great collaboration and we’ll keep you posted on progress.

We’ll be introducing a new events calendar over the next few weeks – we wanted to give you an easy way of finding out about what is going on, where Karen, Leatham, Steve and other Board members will be – and when upcoming events are being held.

Don’t forget to follow progress on  If you haven’t been following us on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn please do – we’re ramped up activity on our social media channels.

Until next month, take care and please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.
