In Memory Of Our Dear Colleague Jan Parkinson – RIP!

Dear PPMA members and friends

I’ve asked Rita Sammons, past President 1999-2000 if she would post a very sad blog in memory of Jan Parkinson (another past President). Rita knew Jan far better than me and so I thought it was fitting if she said a few words. Here they are:

On Friday we heard the sad news that Jan Parkinson had died. Jan as many of you know was previously PPMA President and more recently was an important voice in the LGA. Although sadly diagnosed with inoperable cancer some 9 months ago Jan was positive and realistic about the challenges she faced. In her own inimitable style she set herself a list of enjoyable things to achieve so that she could always focused on something good. Last time I saw her we spent a great evening at Sadlers Wells watching contemporary dance and had another visit arranged for this weekend.

Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated quickly over recent weeks and she died quietly with her family around her. Despite the terrible sadness, I’m sure her family and many friends will remember Jan as I do – somebody with a real zest for life and a great energy and enthusiasm for the new and exciting. She was a great friend and good HR colleague to many and will be sadly missed.
