Helena Clayton

Leadership Development Consultant and Coach. Researcher, Writer and Speaker.

I began my working life in a series of strategic and operational HR roles, experiencing first-hand the vast difference it makes to be managed badly or well.

I then spent seven wonderful years at Roffey Park Institute, where I really learned my trade; their philosophy, rooted in 60 years of self-managed learning, still underpins my approach today. There, I spent most of my time doing what I do best – working with clients and colleagues to design and deliver impactful leadership development programmes. In later years I joined the Executive Team and discovered for myself the skills and behaviours needed to successfully lead an organisation, including through a harsh economic downturn. Then I moved to become Director at Blue Sky Performance Improvement establishing their Leadership Development Practice.

For the past nine years, I have been an independent consultant – and I really do love it. My work with my clients is unfailingly varied, plentiful and stimulating, and I am able to choose the projects that most excite and challenge me, for which I feel hugely grateful.

As well as my own clients, I work as an Associate. I regularly return to Roffey Park as part of their Faculty for theMSc in People and Organisational Development. I also work with London Business School as a Programme Director and with Mayvin Consulting. For my own development, I meet with my Coaching and Practice Supervisor every month, as well as regularly attending personal development workshops.

I have an MSc in Leadership and Learning, an ICF accredited coaching qualification, and am qualified to use tools such as MBTI and FIRO-B. I also trained as a teacher of the Hoffman Process.

I’m currently researching the role of love in leadership and so you might like to subscribe to my monthly Newsletter here.
