Hello PPMA members and friends

A couple of weeks ago the Olympics finished and I had intended to write a post then about how much better it was as a games than I had expected and what a sense of loss I felt, like many others, for not getting a daily fix of uplifting the spirits by watching competitors in all kinds of sports, demonstrating the Olympics motto of ‘Faster, higher, stronger – together’. It truly showcased the dedication and heart that so many Olympians put into an extraordinary additional year of training due to the postponement of the games for one year because of the Covid 19 pandemic, and it highlighted the ingenuity, innovation and perseverance displayed to undertake training for events during isolation and lockdown regimes. The camaraderie displayed by rival competitors in the new Olympic sport of skateboarding was brilliant and highlighted the together element of the Olympic motto which has been added this year.

Now the Paralympics has started, and so a brief period of getting a daily fix of different sporting events and British achievement is here to boost my spirits and wellbeing again.

Why have I mentioned this as part of a post about our Virtual Conference in a couple of weeks’ time? Well, it is because of the PPMA Excellence in People Management Awards.  Over the last 18 months or so our profession has demonstrated so many of the virtues of the Olympians and Paralympians and shown tremendous versatility, adaptability and resilience in the way in which they have supported their workforces to deliver and support the communities they serve. And our Excellence in People Management Awards acknowledge and celebrate this success, achievement and dedication. At our Virtual Conference on the 14 & 15 September we will be announcing LIVE,  the winners of our awards across many categories including recruitment, transformation, development, diversity & inclusion, partnership working and wellbeing.
