Don’t Worry, Be Happy 🙂
#PPMAHR19
Welcome to our Conference 2019 page. You’ll find everything you need to know about our event next year here. We’re able to share the majority of our agenda with you now – we are really excited about this year’s Theme. There will be some updates that we need to make between now and May 2019 – so please check back regularly to see what is new.
We’ve put a lot of thought into this. We’re very interested in the developing science around leadership, wellbeing, engagement, happiness and productivity.
We’ve got some fantastic speakers to talk to us about these fascinating areas. In addition to Professor Beverly Alimo-Metcalfe, John Higgins and Maria Paviour – each leaders in their own fields, we are delighted to introduce Shonette Bason-Wood to our community. Shonette is a pioneer of work on Happiness. You will adore her!
You can find out more about our speaker HERE – just click on their names to see their individual bio’s
Venue
As a reminder, we’re pretty much in the middle of the country this year. We are absolutely delighted to be bringing PPMA conference to the Hilton Metropole Birmingham. Conference is a single site venue this year and the location is fantastic – there is plenty of space for you to explore and relax.
Conference timings
Many of you have asked us to accommodate easier travelling arrangements, so this year Conference is being held from Tuesday to Thursday.
Conference registration will start for those of you attending the whole event on Tuesday 14th as well as Wednesday morning. We’ll be continuing with our pre-conference event which was a highlight of Conference 2018.
Agenda
We will be holding a Tomorrow’s Talent event, a Strategic HRD event and our AGM on Tuesday 14th May. AGM is open to all PPMA members, so if you do want to come you need to make sure that you join us on Tuesday.
We’ve redesigned our fringe themes, which are a key part of our agenda as well as our main stage sessions.

Fringe sessions
We are offering fringe sessions for each of our 8 strategic themes – this will be a great opportunity for you to work and network with our new Strategic Theme Leads. However, we’re also providing you with a wellbeing fringe stream, which will be an opportunity for you to try out a range of meditation and wellbeing tasters. You all deserve some pampering!
Previous PPMA Award winners
We also have a theme focused on our previous award winners – we are inviting 4 previous winners to come and share more information about their successful entries to help share award winning practice more widely across the community. We think this is a great way to give all of you the opportunity to contact previous award winners. Although we try our best to involve award winners in various PPMA events during the year, we think annual conference is the best opportunity for as many of our members to meet and talk to award winners.
Social issues in HR&OD
Additionally this year, we are hosting a ‘Social Issues in HR & OD’ fringe stream. There are a lot of issues that we can influence as HR & OD practitioners, but we don’t always have time to think about them. We’re inviting some inspirational people to talk to us about supporting offenders back into work; helping our military veterans transition to ‘Civvy Street’, promoting social mobility and thinking about how we can support better careers for low paid workers who are juggling multiple jobs. So – plenty of thought provoking topics and speakers and of course time for us to celebrate our amazing PPMA 2019 Award winners.
Gala Awards Dinner
Following on from our shortlisting event which we held on the 27th February, we had some fantastic entries this year and the standard was incredibly high.
CONGRATULATIONS to all of our shortlisted entrants – we wish all of you the very best of luck and look forward to announcing our winners at this years Annual Black Tie Dinner on May 15th.
This year our Dinner theme is ROCK THE KASBAH!! – Think veils, fezzes, jewel colours and gold or unleash your inner rock star! We’re planning lots of fun and entertainment………..
So, on behalf of the broader PPMA leadership community, PPMA Strategic Board extends a very warm invite to all HR & OD Professionals across Public Service to come and join us in 2019. Whilst we cannot put on an event like this without the generous support of sponsors and speakers, fundamentally this event is about you and for you.
Supporting a national community of HR & OD professionals is something PPMA Board members feel passionately about. So come and spend time with us and other amazing colleagues across the country.
We can’t wait to see you in May.
