Dr Andrew Smith

Dr Andrew Smith is Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management and Employment Relations at Bradford University School of Management. Andrew is the Director of Studies for the Doctorate in Business Administration at Bradford University. He has a PhD from Durham University and teaches ‘Employee Relations’ at post-graduate and under-graduate level, ‘Managing People’ for the Masters in Business Administration and ‘Literature Reviewing’ at doctoral level. His research interests cover the experiences of work, employment change, and the complexities of work-life ‘balance’. He has published in leading international journals, including, ‘Work, Employment and Society’, ‘Public Administration’, ‘New Technology, Work and Employment’ and the ‘Industrial Relations Journal’. Andrew is currently conducting research with Dr Jo McBride (Durham University) focusing on the working lives of low-paid workers with more than one job, in the regions of Yorkshire and the North-East of England. This research is important, timely and has never been conducted in the UK before. The team are exploring the experiences and realities of multiple employment, together with the challenges of attempting to achieve work-life ‘balance’. They are working with a range of stakeholders and will widely disseminate the research findings.
