BUILDING PRODUCTIVE PUBLIC SECTOR WORKPLACES – THE CIPD ANALYSIS

With substantial cuts in public expenditure expected, and seemingly inevitable service reductions, redundancies, and pay freezes in the public sector, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) is publishing a series of reports on the theme of “Building productive public sector workplaces”. These reports will assess the ability of public sector managers to meet the challenge of dealing with the expected squeeze, whilst simultaneously driving up overall productivity and service quality.

Steve Vale, HR Consultant, looks at the first two of these reports and attempts to tease out what’s new in the CIPD prognosis, finding a salutary but encouraging message for local government.
