Annual Report 2009
It’s been a fabulous year for both the Pensions and Talent areas of work as well as PPMA, which goes from strength to strength.
The lead for the Pensions group changed half way through last year with Jack Markiewicz being elected as the lead for the talent group and Seanne Giddy temporarily supporting the Pensions lead role
We would like to acknowledge the impressive work that was undertaken by Alan Warner, in his previous lead in the area of Talent and we would like to thank him for his hard work over the last few years.
Some of you may know that I had a very interesting start to 2009 in connection with my health. This meant that the ambitious plans for the Talent group needed to be put on ice for a few months. However, the plans to move Talent on, in 2009, are now well on the way.
The pensions work in 2008 continued to represent, at the highest national level, the best interests of Local Government employees. We focused, in 2008, on the technical aspects of implementing the New Look pensions scheme and on the proposed cost sharing ideas being put forward. Cost sharing is potentially the most important and far reaching changes facing the LGPS and needs close input from the PPMA. We also supported CLG in making sure that the New Look scheme is working on the ground and we have supported the obtaining of data for CLG to monitor progress.
Seanne Giddy from Tandridge has done an excellent job in supporting me as my deputy in the pension role.
In my new Talent leadership role I have developed a plan of action as outlined below and I, continue to, write for national newspapers and websites.
We need to appoint a Pensions lead and we shall be looking to discuss the nomination and make a recommendation at the 20th March Board Meeting.
