Conference 2007

PPMA Conference - Brighton 2007

PPMA is celebrating another glittering conference by the sea. Delegates from across the country descended on the Brighton Hilton Metropole for three days of inspirational speakers, informative workshops and committed networking!

This year's line-up included the Former Chief of the British Army, General Sir Mike Jackson, who delivered a truly memorable speech on leadership; Chief Executive of Ann Summers, Jacqueline Gold, who shared her business experiences; Michael Todd, Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, who showed how one of the country's largest police forces had been transformed; Irene Lucas, Chief Executive of South Tyneside Metropolitan Borough Council, who explained how her authority had leapt up the council rankings and Sir Michael Wilshaw, Principal of the Mossbourne Academy in Hackney who took delegates through the issues facing an inner-city head teacher.

The evenings were glittering affairs, with the Recruitment Advertising Awards hosted by the BBC's star impressionist Jon Culshaw and there was a barnstorming debate to close the conference. Martin Sixsmith, former BBC Correspondent and Department of Transport Communication Chief and David Frost, Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce, took on the combined talents of Oona King, former Labour MP and Aiden Rave, Former Deputy Leader of Doncaster.

The motion was "This House believes that politicians stand in the way of progress." Despite Martin and David's fine efforts, it was Oona and Aiden - opposing the motion - that won the day.

Roll on PPMA 2008!
