PPMA SOUTH WEST REGION ANNUAL REPORT 2009/10
Throughout 2009 the SW region have held regional meetings in Taunton, Poole and Swindon, these have been well attended and membership is increasing steadily. In addition to the networking opportunities and sharing of key issues at the regional meetings we have also been fortunate to have had a number of speakers to inform us of;
• Changes in the Economic Climate – How HR are responding as work demands change.
• The new Equality framework and Diversity agenda for PPMA ‘promoting Equality and tackling exclusion’.
• The Potential pressures on the LGPS in terms of cost sharing and the final salary scheme.
• South West Employers reported on the increasing dissatisfaction with 2009 pay negotiations and consultation arrangements and the subsequent review that is currently being undertaken.
• The National project on Regional Recruitment Portals
• PPMA HR Transformation Programme which uses a transformation portal resource to assist HR delivery through improved service delivery models.
With the Local Government landscape continuing to make significant changes in the South West with new unitary Councils being formed (Wiltshire and Cornwall) Re-organisations, Pathfinder projects, Outsourcing, shared service provision and a whole host of other initiatives that would benefit shared learning opportunities, it is a priority for the region to encourage and develop more corporate memberships which seek to engage PPMA activity within these new ways of working.
In the true spirit of partnership working South West Employers and PPMA had been intending once again to hold the SW/ PPMA Annual General meeting/HR conference in January. However financial and workload pressures have impacted upon our members ability to attend and unfortunately we had to postpone the event. Nick Macklin Deputy Director South West employers and I will undertake a review with our respective members for the nature and timing of any future events and also look to explore what other opportunities can be created to more effectively engage with members.
