Annual Report 2009

Our PPMA region continues to work closely with the East of England Regional Assembly to promote and support networking on people management issues across the region.

A particular challenge this year in the region has been Local Government Review, affecting local authorities in three of our six county areas. Local authorities in Bedfordshire are undergoing reorganisation from April 2009 and those in Norfolk and Suffolk have been facing the prospect of reorganisation from 2010, although that timescale now looks likely to be extended to 2011. We have established a regional forum to support those authorities, and have benefited from input from the Hay Group and from the Local Government Leadership Centre.

Our regular quarterly meetings continue to be held in partnership with the East of England Regional Assembly. Amongst our sessions this year we have welcomed colleagues from the Local Government Employers and enjoyed a stimulating debate on “world class people management in the public sector” ably led by our President, Stephen Moir.

This year has also seen the establishment of our regional group as a commissioning group on workforce development issues on behalf of Improvement East (our Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnership).
We have held two workshop sessions to develop this role and to determine priorities for 2009/10.

On behalf of all our regional members I would like to once again say a big “thank-you” to Mike Mosley and his wonderful team at EERA for all their help and support during the year. Mike is retiring this year from his role as Deputy Chief Executive and I would like to take this opportunity to extend a particular thank-you to him. Mike has been a great friend and supporter of PPMA over a number of years. We will miss him and wish him all the very best for the future.
