Regional report (June 2010)

The region have continued to focus their efforts on membership growth, sharing best practice and HR development through workshop and market place events in preference to the monthly branch meetings, which tend to focus on the business side and organisation of PPMA activities. Although the branch business meetings have continued to secure sponsorship in order to increase income for future investment.

We are continuing to ensure that the region is better represented on the national policy development groups and wherever possible these are being closely linked with membership on the regional employers working groups on the national improvement strategy and workforce strategy themes.

With support from colleagues from other PPMA regions in the North East, North West and the respective Regional Employers Organisations, Yorkshire and Humberside region again co-hosted the very successful annual Northern HR Briefing in Harrogate during September 2009 including a free pre-event session on Wellbeing and are currently in the planning stages for this year’s event on 16 and 17th September 2010.

The region in partnership with our regional employers LGYH sponsored a three day training event in January and February this year on managing mental health in the workplace, specifically focussing on job retention and skills for line managers, following on from an Improving Mental Wellbeing event held in Rotherham in November 2009. This course wais aimed at line managers from any sector, with a practical focus and application to work settings. Again, a great opportunity to encourage further membership from across all sectors and effective networking opportunities.

Further topical events are currently being organised for this year, the
next focussing on Regional CAA Best Practice – Partnerships uncovered.

Work is also progressing on developing a regional newsletter sign posting
PPMA events; providing the opportunity for feedback and networking.

Finally, we are pleased to report that Doncaster Council is one of 6 Council’s to be featured at this year’s PPMA National Conference; show casing their ‘best performing’ apprenticeship programme in the region, supporting the Community Skills agenda ‘Aspiration Doncaster.’
