Annual Report 2009

As a region we have agreed to meet annually in December and to link this with a CPD event. We recognise how difficult it is for our Members to travel across the region to get together. This year we have been working more closely with the Regional Employers (LGEM) who run a number of professional networks and also find that attendance is variable. We have a shared wish to develop and improve the capacity of HR across the region and to work together to achieve this.

At their meeting in December, PPMA members agreed to a strategy that would develop closer working with LGEM. An infrastructure of support based around County Personnel Networks that would give stronger more localised support and development to both PPMA Members and other professionals. These groups would then link into the regional network with the aim of identifying development and learning needs and delivering events to match these.

Within the region the strength of each of the County Groups is variable, and initially with the support of LGEM these are being developed to be the foundation for HR practitioners and leaders to share information and good practice.

Initial thoughts for development activities include employment law updates, workforce planning and shared services. These will be arranged by LGEM with the support of PPMA.

The Transforming HR agenda is being led by one of our members – Martin Rayson from Boston, and the region has benefited from participating in events designed to share ideas and with the possibility of developing action learning sets for members in the Region.

I was pleased to be elected as Chair for another year, and thanks to Sam Maher from LGEM who is our Secretary.
